Ramble No. 11 - Clumber Park, Notts.

Date: Sat 2 Oct 2011
Place: Clumber Park near Worksop, Nottinghamshire
Distance: About 10 miles
Time:   Over 5hrs including tea!
Weather: Very warm and sunny for the time of year.

Start: Clumber Park Caravan Club site.

Started towards the National Trust facilities via the Lime Walk.

Set off to walk North East around the lake.

Bought Russett apples for lunch.Continued round South side of lake.

Crossed the bridge back to the National Trust retaurant for a cream tea.

Ramble No.10 - Goathland, N Yorks

Place : High moors walk around Goathland

Weather: Sunny, windy and very clear

Start: Goathland Station

Up the cracker bank from the station, and along the old tram track to the mine.

Turned North up the moor from the mine, accross the Green End road to the Whinstone Ridge for picnic lunch out of the sun and wind.

 Continued following the Whinstone Ridge accross the Goathland road.

Ramble No. 9 - Downe, Kent

Place : Village of Downe, Kent and Darwin's House

Weather: Cloudy & autumnal

Start: Opposite Downe village church

Having visited Down House (English Heritage), and enjoyed a cream tea, parked by the pub and followed a walk through the fields in Darwin's footsteps around the village.

Ramble No. 8 - Hyde Park

Place : Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens

Weather: Cloudy but warm & bright

Start: Hyde Park Corner (via 436 bus from Camberwell)

Walked around Wellington Arch and memorials to Australia and New Zealand before using underpass to enter Hyde Park near Apsley House. Through Rose Gardens and past formal bedding to reach Serpentine.

 Along North edge of Serpentine past grandstands for triathlon being dismantled to cross south over bridge to the Diana memorial fountain.

The serpentine gallery 'installation' this year is a garden with black walls around it.
Inside the main gallery is a maze of corrugated cardboard with mirrors.

After visiting the Albert memorial in Kensington Gardens near the Albert Hall, walked back along carriage drive past the barracks to catch bus from Hyde Park Corner.
