Ramble No.10 - Goathland, N Yorks

Place : High moors walk around Goathland

Weather: Sunny, windy and very clear

Start: Goathland Station

Up the cracker bank from the station, and along the old tram track to the mine.

Whinstone mine
Turned North up the moor from the mine, accross the Green End road to the Whinstone Ridge for picnic lunch out of the sun and wind.

 Continued following the Whinstone Ridge accross the Goathland road.

 Reached a boundary stone - probably Robbed Howe.

Views of Ravenscar beacon in the East to Bilsdale beacon in the West
Robin Hood's Bay in the distance
 By-passed York Cross via Foster Howes to reach Ann's Cross

Fylingdales moor
 Followed track past Louven Howe to Lilla Cross for a picnic tea.

 Via MOD track and path back down to Eller Beck bridge accross main Pickering Whitby road.

 Up Goathland road to Moorgates.

 Turned up incline track following the George Stephenson line back to Goathland.

Ramble No. 9 - Downe, Kent

Place : Village of Downe, Kent and Darwin's House
Distance: Les than 3 miles
Time:   About 1 hr for the walk
Weather: Cloudy & autumnal

Start: Opposite Downe village church

Having visited Down House (English Heritage), and enjoyed a cream tea, parked by the pub and followed a walk through the fields in Darwin's footsteps around the village.
