Ramble No. 4 - Wapping

Time:  a leisurely 2 1/2 hrs
Weather: Bright, warm sunny intervals

Start: Tower Hill Underground Station, return via Westferry Docklands Light Railway Station

St Katherine's Dock

Stalls by St Katherine's dock were conveniently selling a choice of take away lunch from all over the world.

Sunny views accross the river from quiet parks.
Wapping High Street wharves are now all reveloped as offices and flats. Few people about.

The Shard and Tower Bridge

St John of Wapping School, Scandrett Steet

Passed London River Police HQ and jetty. Nearby site of excecution dock where Captain Kidd was hanged.

 A stop for refreshment with a river panorama from the back patio.

Canary Wharf from Propect of Whitby pub.

 Deserted Shadwell basin is used for canoeing. Then the walk included a short stretch along the start of the Regent's canal - we'll have to return to do more sometime.

 Primary schoolchildren were having an afternoon sports event in a park between the flats, between which was the spire of the church at which Captain Cook had his son baptised. On the way to Westferry station past the HQ of the seaman's mission we skirted the Nicholas Hawksmoor built parish church of St Anne's Limehouse (early 1800’s).

Later visited Tate Modern Miro exhibition with H and had a drink at the RFH.
